Here at AFC Stanley, our Soccer School follows closely with the FA Tesco Skills Programme, which aims to improve technique, confidence and ball skills in a fun and positive learning environment. However, we consider it just as important that the children learn the following skills in our programme:-
Interacting comfortably within a group. Working together as a team towards a common goal.
Dealing with both victory and defeat. Respecting opponents, accepting and obeying the rules of the game.
In addition your child can also:-
Develop their own style of using the football. Learn how to move in a variety of situations and improve their co-ordination, mobility, agility, reactions and speed. Most importantly that they have FUN playing the game of soccer and being part of a team.
So, at AFC Stanley don't be surprised to see the children doing exercises that may seem like they have nothing to do with soccer. Developing basic skills like balancing, hopping, throwing, jumping and many more exercises all play a valuable role in the long term development of soccer skills. However, these sessions will always centre around the game of soccer.
Another important factor of our Soccer School is we do not believe that parents should just stand there and spectate. We don't expect you to become soccer coaches overnight, but helping with the organisation of coaching sessions, keeping the children's short attention span focused are just a couple of aspects where you could help and play a part. So don't be surprised when volunteers are called for !
